[Helpdesk] disappeared data

Help!   I had one file, with an alias on the iBook desktop, into which I put 
everything that was not part of the computer software or applications.   In 
other words, everything I've kept over 5 years.   The alias is still there, but 
there is nothing left of the file.   We've indexed, and looked again, and it 
is gone.   The only thing I've done recently is install a driver for an Epson 
980 printer, which is working just fine.
