[Helpdesk] need to borrow external firewire harddrive asap

Ed,
Have you tried doing a "get info" (select the desktop icon for the
external drive and type "command i"). The is an option to change
Ownership & Permissions near the bottom of the window which allows
you to set Read, Read Write, No Access and Write Only for the
selected volume.
