[Helpdesk] need to borrow external firewire harddrive asap

If it is a permissions problem, you can bypass that by starting up in  
OS 9, or connecting the drive to a computer running 9 or earlier, and  
see if you can format it there. If it still won't format, the problem  
is deeper than permissions.
