[Helpdesk] Server problem

For what it's worth, you're not alone. This was happening to me
yesterday, though not so far today. (And it's happened a few times in
recent weeks, for no apparent reason.) Not all sites, but enough to
be a nuisance. Afraid I have no idea why; haven't had/taken time to
investigate -- except that trying the same site in another browser
produced the same result (couldn't connect, though that browser
didn't show the same message as Safari). I can only suggest, try
again later; that's worked for me.

I'm with EarthLink also; I switched a few months ago, mostly for
their faster DSL including dialup. I work on other people's
computers, and it was annoying to have to pay CyberMesa 75c extra
just to test a modem when they were already getting nearly $40/month
from me for slow DSL. Unfortunately, I'd have to say I've been rather
less than impressed with EarthLink. CyberMesa included an excellent
spam filtering service; EarthLink, whose resources must be far
greater, leaves it up to the user to figure out how to deal with
junkmail. (The spam avalanche began within half an hour of setting up
this address -- certainly not due to my having used it anywhere --
and has continued unabated.) And I've had far more dropouts on music
streams from EarthLink's DSL.

Email clients such as Apple Mail connect to a different server than
the one that provides for web access, so problems with the one won't
necessarily be duplicated by the other.

Sorry I can't be of more help; if I ever figure out what causes this
problem, I'll post a message. I suspect it's somewhere in EarthLink's
server, though. Fortunately, it doesn't last very long.
