[Helpdesk] recommendations on external HD?

Hi Folks.
I need to expand my backup space.  I figure an extra 250GB HD will do. 
(although, depending on the price differential, I could conceivably go 
higher)  I seem to recall somebody making some comments a couple months 
ago about LaCie HD's - recommending a different brand.  I however, have 
misplaced (likely deleted) that message.  Any cuurent issues or 
recommendations out there???
