GRAPHICS AND FINE-ARTS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
of the
THE SF MAC USER GROUP
Announces the Presentation
by
Mr. John Tollett
"Introduction and Allegro for Corel Painter"
Painter is a "natural media" painting application that lets you
digitally simulate real-world tools and brushes -- such as pencils,
oils, felt tip markers, and watercolors.
The Painter demo will give you an overview of what Painter can do,
and how it can inspire creativity in imaging that's beyond other
image editing applications.
We'll begin with a simple explanation of the Painter interface, then
show how to work with layers, color sets, textures, and patterns.
You'll learn how to control and customize brushes, and how to work
with wet media such as watercolor.
Then the fun begins. We'll explore Painter's most powerful feature,
cloning. Cloning uses a source image, such as a photograph, and lets
you create infinite variations of the image with any tool you want.
Painter is not just for illustrators and painters. Even if you've
never drawn a picture in your life, you'll be amazed at the
masterpieces you can create with Painter.

word correctly, just Control-click on the word and a contextual menu
will appear. At the top of this menu will be choices for what it

misspelled and it recognizes the word in the first place). If you
agree, just move your cursor over that word, release your mouse
button, and your misspelled word will be replaced. Mighty handy.

TidBITS Releases a Trio of Titles about GarageBand 3
Whether you're a newbie or an experienced musician, turn to three new
ebooks from Take Control to learn how to work creatively and
effectively with GarageBand. In "Take Control of Making Music with
GarageBand," you'll find step-by-step directions from Seattle
musician Jeff Tolbert for using GarageBand's built-in loops to plan,
edit, mix, and export a tune, while in Jeff's "Take Control of

of existing gear and what to purchase, as well as real-world
recording studio techniques, using a mic, and applying effects. Both
ebooks include linked-in audio that lets you listen to examples while
you read about them and suggestions for enhancing GarageBand's
performance. The third ebook in the trio, Andy Affleck's "Take
Control of Podcasting on a Mac" lays out the entire process for
becoming a successful podcaster, from planning your content,
assembling your gear, recording and editing (in GarageBand 3 or other
popular programs), and publishing and promoting your episodes. As

in some cases you'll see two-ebook bundles for sale where the bundle
