   ............………….. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

March is the 12th Anniversary of the Santa Fe Macintosh User Group!
That calls for a big party! For music we have Larry Mitchell, back
for his second live performance. Larry will give a demonstration of
Apple's new GarageBand 3 and entertain us through the evening. We're
calling in the big guns for this one, but I'm no name dropper, you'll
have to come see who shows up. Hint: Bring your favorite, best
selling, Macintosh user books for signing. All that, plus treats,
libation and party favors.

Oh yea, March is also Board Nomination time, so don't eat so many
cupcakes you can't nominate someone. In April we vote.

***Editor's Note: Do you design websites? Create slideshows, music or
movies,? Do you edit photos, write books, or design homes? Are you
plotting the stars, documenting chemtrails, working out the cure for
cancer or hunger? Are you putting the final touches on your free
energy invention? No matter what you use your Mac for, sharing how
you do it will inspire others to new levels of whatever they us their
Mac for. Let one of the SFMUG Board members know and we'll help you
tell your story to the group.

    ............………….......... RAFFLE

The big raffle item this month is a DiskGO! USB Watch Drive - it's
not just a 256 MB USB drive, but it's a sport watch, too! This thing
is just too slick to pass up, and retails for over $60:
<http://www.edgetechcorp.com/usb-flash-drives/diskgo-combos-watch.asp>

Other items this month include "Podcast Solutions" The Complete Guide
to Podcasting" by Michael Geoghegan and Dan Klass (a $25 value)
<http://www.friendsofed.com/book.html?isbn=1590595548>, a $20 iTunes
Gift Certificate, a 25 pack of K Hypermedia DVD-R 8X (a $10 value),
and some freebie Apple items (pens, notepads) as consolation prizes
for all non-winning raffle ticket buyers. Remember, raffle tickets
are $2 each, three for $5, and whatever deal you can make for higher
denomination bills - it all goes to support SFMUG activities!

As always, we may have something else cool show up just in time for
the meeting. Support SFMUG and purchase a fistful of raffle tickets!

The Robin Williams Academic Award search is underway. One Santa Fe
area college bound graduating high school senior will be awarded an
Apple iBook. For more details about the award visit http://
www.santafemug.org/sfmug2005-AcademicAward.html - Note: The
information on that page is from 2005 and although similar, there may
be changes this year, stay tuned!

The Santa Fe Macintosh User Group Board has named the SFMUG Academic
Award to honor one of our founding members for her many contributions
to the Macintosh Community at large and SFMUG specifically.
Graduating seniors applying for the Robin Williams Academic Award
iBook, should see Robin as a great inspiration. Robin is part of a
great team. She is one of the most successful Macintosh Instructional
writers in the known realm. She practically invented the "Computer
Instructional Books for the Masses" genre. Robin flies in the face
of convention when she posses the question, in public, "Did a woman
write Shakespeare's plays?" and answers, "Yes, Mary Sidney Herbert,
the Countess of Pembroke!" ( Read more about Sweet Swan of Avon,
Robin's book on the subject at http://www.marysidneysociety.org/
index.html ) She is friendly to strangers, children and animals. And,
we love her because she has always been there cheerfully for SFMUG!
For these things and many others, when SFMUG awards the deserving
student with the iBook, a tool we hope will inspire them, we do it in
the name of someone who has inspired so many already.

................................SITE(s) OF THE MONTH

A little known area of the Apple site (at least to me). Of particular
interest, Mac OS Downloads by Category near the bottom of the page.
Lots of interesting little shareware/freeware application downloads.
One that I found particularly interesting was Journler which is a Mac
Journaling app that integrates with iPhoto and other apps to enhance
your Journal including sound. Run through each category, you're bound
to find something you can use.
www.apple.com/rss/

www.radiantvista.com
Should be of interest to Photographers and Photoshop enthusiasts with
photo critiques, Photoshop video and PDF tutorials. Also a Podcast
which you can subscribe to from the site.

Download the beta version of Adobe's Lightroom which is Adobe's
answer to Apple's Aperture, a digital photography workflow tool.
These are big boys and girls tools but interesting in any case. Test
it and provide Adobe your feedback. It's FREE!
